Khachatryan was detained yesterday. Security forces searched his and his son's apartments, as well as the offices and branches of 21 companies affiliated with them. These actions were carried out as part of criminal proceedings involving bribery on an especially large scale and money laundering on an especially large scale.
By a decision of the Prosecutor General's Office dated August 29, 2026, the public criminal prosecution initiated on June 7, 2026, against the former Chairman of the State Revenue Committee and the former Minister of Finance in the criminal proceedings being reviewed by the Investigative Committee was amended and supplemented, and a new public criminal prosecution was initiated.
As a reminder, the day before, Khachatryan's lawyers posted a video showing the ailing Khachatryan being literally dragged out of bed and placed on a stretcher to be taken to court. In the courthouse itself, the former minister was forced to lie on chairs, which was perceived by the legal team as further torture.
