Kremlin: It is up to Armenians to decide on Armenia`s possible  accession to EU

ArmInfo. The decision on Armenia's possible accession to the European Union should be made by Armenians themselves, for which purpose Russia is proposing a  referendum, stated Russian presidential press secretary Dmitry  Peskov.

"We cannot be more Armenian than Armenians themselves. The decision  about their own fate will be made by Armenians themselves. And we are  proposing that they do just that, by holding a referendum," Peskov  told reporters. He recalled that the heads of state of the Eurasian  Economic Union had also officially proposed this to Armenians, having  made the corresponding decision at the recent summit in Astana. 

According to him, the upcoming meeting in Bishkek between Russian  President Vladimir Putin and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan  could discuss holding a referendum in Armenia on the country's future  relations with the European Union or the Eurasian Economic Union.

"Contact at the highest level is important every time," said the  Russian leader's press secretary, commenting on the upcoming meeting  between Putin and Pashinyan.

Pashinyan's press service reported on August 31 that he was visiting  Bishkek, but made no mention of his meeting with Putin.
