Over 5,000 children apply for admission to Russian-language classes  in Armenia

ArmInfo.  As of today, 5,427 children have applied for admission to Russian-language classes in Armenia. Zhanna Andreasyan, head of MESKS, announced this at a press  conference in Yerevan on August 28, presenting the Ministry's  programs and priorities for the 2026-2027 academic year.

She noted that the data is generally general, as parents can submit  applications until September 5.  Andreasyan explained that this  primarily concerns students in the first and tenth grades. "That is,  the final picture will be clear in the first days of September. Last  year, 424,939 students were enrolled in Armenian schools. We expect a  similar figure this year," the minister noted.

Regarding families returning to Armenia from abroad and their  children's education, Andreasyan said the education system has  appropriate regulations in place. "Currently, we have 5,427 children  enrolled in Russian-language classes. This figure will also be  summarized soon. And yes, we are seeing a certain increase in this  area, particularly in Yerevan. Therefore, we have made certain ad hoc  decisions to ensure children's right to education," Andreasyan noted.

For example, according to the head of the Ministry of Education,  Science, and Culture, if licensed places for Russian-language  instruction are exhausted in any administrative district, children  will still be admitted to schools. "I believe we'll be able to  discuss trends within the first 10 days of September, as we'll have  more precise data then. Our compatriots are also raising the issue of  continuing their education in Armenia at universities and colleges,  and we're addressing these issues in our daily work," the minister  concluded.
