Minister: Access to AI educational tools to expand in Armenia  starting in September

ArmInfo. Access to artificial intelligence (AI) tools will be significantly expanded in Armenia's general and higher education systems starting in September 2026.   Minister Head Zhanna Andreasyan announced this at a press conference  in Yerevan on August 28, presenting the Ministry's programs and  priorities for the 2026-2027 academic year.

In this regard, Andreasyan reported that, as part of a collaboration  with the American company OpenAI and the Firebird Foundation, a free  subscription is planned for 50,000 users-students and teachers. The  minister explained that access to AI tools will be available to both  students, particularly high school students, and university  representatives. "The most well-known tool today is ChatGPT, but  there's also ChatGPT Edu, which is focused on leveraging artificial  intelligence in educational institutions. With it, principals can,  for example, analyze data on student performance, attendance, and  grades, identify problem areas, and determine areas that require  additional attention. This is just one way this tool can be used in  educational planning," the minister explained.

Furthermore, she noted, with the introduction of this tool, teachers  will be able to free themselves from mechanical work and devote more  time to the creative component of their work. Specifically,  Andreasyan explained, this tool can be used in preparing assignments,  tests, and other educational materials.

At the same time, the minister acknowledged that the introduction of  new technologies will require appropriate training for teachers and  school leaders. To this end, she stated that she plans to soon  introduce relevant manuals and video materials that will help  teachers and principals better master the capabilities of AI and use  them effectively.

"Furthermore, a large-scale retraining program is planned. As AI  becomes a part of our daily lives, we are confident that only sound  decisions will enable this tool to be used effectively, not  counterproductively.  This is especially true given the risks facing  the education system worldwide. Therefore, we believe it is necessary  to improve legislation. In this regard, the Ministry plans to  collaborate with the Ministry of High- Tech Industry, which will help  ensure a more effective response by the education system to  technological challenges," Andreasyan concluded.
