Gor Vardanyan, PhD in Engineering, to head National Polytechnic  University of Armenia

ArmInfo.  Gor Vardanyan, PhD in Engineering, will head the National Polytechnic University of  Armenia. The RA government approved his candidacy at its meeting on  August 27.

In her speech, RA Minister of Education, Science, Culture, and Sports  Zhanna Andreasyan noted that the university's Board of Trustees  announced a competition to fill the vacant rector position on July  29, with three candidates submitting applications. Following a secret  ballot, in which 18 members of the Board of Trustees participated,  Gor Vardanyan, PhD in Engineering, was elected rector. He will sign a  five-year employment contract as chairman of the Board of Trustees.  The minister noted that during the past period, Vardanyan had already  led the university, which had achieved impressive results in a number  of areas.

According to current regulations, the rector is elected through an  open competition at a meeting of the Board of Trustees by secret  ballot, with a simple majority of votes cast. The same person cannot  be elected to the position of rector more than two times in a row.  The results of the rector's election are approved by the government  of the republic.
