ArmInfo. The second president of Armenia, Robert Kocharyan, recently underwent surgery, and his doctor decided to conduct an additional examination. This is how Bagrat Mikoyan, head of the office of the second president of Armenia, commented on the news of Kocharyan's hospitalization from the building of the Anti-Corruption Committee of Armenia.
"The second president recently underwent medical intervention, which, naturally, we did not report. Currently, the doctor, based on this circumstance, deemed it necessary to conduct an additional examination," Mikoyan said in a statement published by the press service of the Armenia bloc.
As a reminder, Kocharyan was previously hospitalized from the building of the Anti-Corruption Committee of Armenia, where he was taken early in the morning following a search of his home. It was reported that the second president's health had worsened, specifically, his blood pressure had increased.
Beginning early in the morning of August 25, a search was also conducted at the home of Levon Kocharyan, a member of the National Assembly of Armenia from the opposition "Armenia" faction and the son of second president Robert Kocharyan. The search lasted seven hours. It was also reported that searches were being conducted at dozens of addresses of companies belonging to the Kocharyan family. Later, the Anti-Corruption Committee of Armenia confirmed the detention of Robert Kocharyan and his son, Sedrak Kocharyan. Aram Orbelyan, the lawyer for the second president of Armenia, reported that Kocharyan was being detained on charges similar to those brought against him following the June parliamentary elections in Armenia. Orbelyan specified that the charges relate to Kocharyan's ratification of certain government decisions during his presidency. It is noteworthy that the day before, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan ordered law enforcement agencies to deprive Kocharyan and the third president of the Republic, Serzh Sargsyan, of their property.
