ArmInfo. What happened to the family of the second president of the Republic of Armenia, Robert Kocharyan, was not unexpected; it was expected. Agnessa Khamoyan, a member of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia from the opposition "Armenia" faction, told journalists on August 25.
According to her, since 7:00 a.m., officers from the "Alpha" special forces unit have been conducting searches of the homes of Robert and Levon Kocharyan. Moreover, searches are being conducted at all companies in which members of the Kocharyan family have an interest. "I don't know what case the searches are being conducted for. In Stalin's time, they used to say: if there's a man, a charge will be found. If there's a political decision, a charge will definitely be found. None of this came as a surprise-it was to be expected. After Levon Kocharyan's statement yesterday, we immediately recorded that certain actions would be taken," she said. Khamoyan added that Nikol Pashinyan gave direct instructions to the law enforcement system from the National Assembly rostrum yesterday.
As a reminder, the Anti-Corruption Committee has been conducting a search since early this morning at the home of Levon Kocharyan, a member of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia from the Armenia faction. Following this, it was reported that second President of the Republic of Armenia Robert Kocharyan and his son Sedrak Kocharyan had been detained. According to the Anti-Corruption Committee, searches and other procedural actions are being conducted at several dozen addresses as part of the criminal investigation. Early this morning, security forces raided the home of second President Robert Kocharyan, taking him to the Anti-Corruption Committee. It's worth noting that all of this occurred after a verbal altercation between Levon Kocharyan and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan in parliament the previous day. Pashinyan questioned how Kocharyan managed to become a millionaire during his 10 years in power. The prime minister stated that Levon Kocharyan's children will not inherit his millions because all illegally acquired property must be returned, and from the entire "Kocharyan and Sargsyan clan," and called the attention of law enforcement to this. Levon Kocharyan, in turn, stated that in a democratic country, the head of government has no right to make such statements and declare someone guilty without grounds.
