Armenia`s Law on Citizenship is being revised

ArmInfo. On August 22, a working discussion of the draft law amending the Law on Citizenship of the Republic of Armenia was held under the chairmanship of Interior Minister Arpine Sargsyan. According to the press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the discussion was attended by  Acting Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs Armen Ghazaryan, Acting  Head of the Migration and Citizenship Service Nelly Davtyan, and  representatives of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

The agenda included issues related to more effectively organizing the  citizenship granting process, improving existing legal regulations,  and addressing current issues in this area.

Arpine Sargsyan emphasized the need to rethink the institution of  citizenship, particularly emphasizing the importance of ensuring a  stable legal connection between the person receiving citizenship and  the Republic of Armenia. "We are reviewing the procedures for  granting and revoking citizenship. All decisions we develop must be  based on an understanding of the need to ensure a new quality in the  relationship between the state and the citizen," the Minister of  Internal Affairs emphasized.

During the meeting, proposals were presented for reviewing and  improving the processes for obtaining and restoring Armenian  citizenship. Opportunities for improving legal requirements and  existing mechanisms were discussed, as well as solutions aimed at  addressing emerging issues in this area, taking into account best  international practices and aligning them with the legal and  practical specifics of the Republic of Armenia.

The Minister of Internal Affairs instructed that the package of  measures be finalized based on the discussions and submitted for  public discussion.
