Additional National Assembly session to be held in Yerevan

ArmInfo. An additional session of the National Assembly of Armenia will be convened today, August 21, as stated by Deputy Speaker Hayk Konjoryan  at the NA plenary session.

According to Konjoryan, the extension is called as deliberations  surrounding candidates for the leadership of parliamentary standing  committees reached a critical juncture amid pressing time  constraints. Under current parliamentary regulations, lawmakers are  authorized to extend legislative proceedings beyond the conclusion of  the standard plenary schedule.

Note, on August 21, parliamentarians resumed debates regarding the  leadership of the Standing Committee on Financial, Credit, and  Budgetary Affairs. The opposition faction Strong Armenia put forward  Liana Manukyan for the post. During the session, the nominee  addressed questions from MPs, sparking a broader exchange of views  among factions.  This development follows a vote on August 20, when  the parliamentary majority represented by the Civil Contract party  voted against three candidates nominated by the Strong Armenia bloc.  That initial slate included Hayk Farmanyan, who had originally been  running for the chairmanship of the Financial, Credit, and Budgetary  Affairs Committee. Manukyan's candidacy was subsequently introduced  following the rejection of the previous nomination.
