ArmInfo. The Investigative Committee of Armenia has initiated a criminal case following a fatal traffic accident in Chambarak that resulted in the death of a serviceman.
"A criminal case has been opened under Part 1 and Part 4 of Article 342 of the Criminal Code— concerning the violation of traffic safety rules or the safe operation of vehicles—in connection with the August 19 accident on the Chambarak-Vahan highway. The driver of the vehicle has been detained as part of the criminal proceedings," the Investigative Committee stated. It is noted that a preliminary investigation is currently underway, accompanied by other urgent investigative and procedural measures.
Earlier, it was reported that the tragic evening collision on August 19 claimed the life of one conscript and injured several others. According to media reports, six additional servicemen sustained injuries of varying severity. Social media posts identify the deceased as Suren Vardanyan, who had been drafted into military service a month ago.
The defense department has not yet released information regarding why the servicemen were on the road at that hour rather than at their military base.
