ArmInfo. If the Republic of Armenia is not guided by Armenian interests, what should it be guided by? This question was raised by Ishkhan Saghatelyan, a member of the National Assembly from the opposition "Armenia" faction, during a speech from the parliamentary podium on August 19.
According to him, the Republic of Armenia and Armenian interests are mutually complementary, vital, and fundamental. "And know well that when you remove Armenian interests from the Republic of Armenia, it ceases to be an Armenian state," Ishkhan Saghatelyan declared, addressing his colleagues from the ruling "Civil Contract" faction. The MP argued that the root of these policies lies in the concept of the "real Armenia," or the so-called Fourth Republic "You say we need a new Constitution and that the citizen of the Republic of Armenia should be its owner. But the entire problem is that you are not the founders of the Fourth Republic; Turkey is its architect, and Azerbaijan is its builder. You aren't even entrusted with the design work—that is handled by certain European states. You are the public relations specialists for this project, packaging the idea and selling it to our people. This is precisely where your attitude toward Armenian issues, the diaspora, the Armenian cause, national organizations, and those guided by Armenian interests stems from," Saghatelyan declared.
Recall, the parliamentary session was convened to discuss the candidacy of Arevik Hovsepyan, who was nominated by the opposition "Strong Armenia" faction for the position of chair of the National Assembly's Standing Committee on European Integration.
