ArmInfo. On August 18, a session of the National Assembly of the RA is discussing the candidacy for the chair of the NA Standing Committee on Protection of Human Rights and Public Affairs. The opposition "Armenia" faction nominated NA deputy Lilit Galstyan for this position.
In her speech, she thanked her political team and faction for nominating her for the post of committee chair. Galstyan presented her remarks on issues related to human rights protection. According to her, her goal remains unchanged: to achieve real change in the country and build a viable state. . Addressing the candidate, Maria Karapetyan, a deputy from the ruling Civil Contract faction, asked whether Galstyan was willing to discuss stopping the dissemination of fabricated, conflict-provoking talk about "Western Azerbaijan" in the Republic of Armenia for six months or a year. "Because if nothing changes in Azerbaijan after that, you will always have the opportunity to return to your style of work," Karapetyan asked.
In response, Lilit Galstyan stated that her speeches, whether in parliament or on international platforms, can in no way be perceived as provoking conflict. "I speak based on the assessments and value system that, as a politician and a member of the ARF, are paramount to me. Speeches at international forums about the return of prisoners, the international right of return for the Armenians of Artsakh, and the security threats facing the Republic of Armenia are absolutely neither fictitious nor conflict-provoking. Anyone who thinks that pursuing a policy of ignoring these security threats will supposedly ensure peace is delusional. My statements stem from a position of protecting the interests of the Armenian people. Every day, we see Aliyev and his entire administration organizing festivals in Nakhchivan in support of a return to 'Western Azerbaijan.' This discussion is being conducted at the state level, just as a special commission for the destruction and appropriation of Armenian cultural heritage was established by decree of Azerbaijani President Aliyev," Galstyan said.
She added that the ruling faction does not make such demands at international forums because it advocates a policy of peace at any cost. "I represent the rights of those people for whom Artsakh is their homeland, who are today being oppressed in Baku prisons, and the rights of 120,000 Armenians who are protected by international law," Lilit Galstyan concluded.
