ArmInfo. The Armenian authorities' attacks on the diaspora, diaspora organizations, and national figures pursue different goals. Former MP Tigran Abrahamyan writes this on his Facebook page.
"Both in Armenia and abroad, the current regime persecutes those figures and organizations that deal with national issues: from the international recognition of the Armenian Genocide and the Artsakh issue to the defense of the Armenian Apostolic Church. No less noteworthy is the fact that the current regime is simultaneously trying to please Baku and Ankara by persecuting those individuals and organizations that have provoked the wrath of hostile countries with their pro-Armenian activities," the oppositionist emphasized. He added that the repression, lawlessness, and violence taking place in Armenia are directed against the Armenian people, and these people are subjected to various persecutions not only within the country but also abroad.
It should be noted that the day before, speaking in the National Assembly, Arman Yeghoyan, a deputy from the ruling Civil Contract faction, stated that the assertion that the stronger the diaspora, the stronger Armenia is a myth and a lie. The same, he said, applies to the opposite principle. "By definition, the diaspora can physically strengthen over time, but only through an influx of new migrants from Armenia or other countries where Armenian communities also exist," Yeghoyan said. According to the parliamentarian, the Armenian diaspora, regardless of the country, has never grown or strengthened through the natural succession of generations. "This has never happened in all history," the MP clarified.
