ArmInfo. A decision regarding the future prospects of Armenia's participation in the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) must be made within a reasonable timeframe, as stated by the organization's Secretary General, Taalatbek Masadykov.
"We proceed from the premise that a decision regarding Armenia's future participation in the CSTO must be made within a reasonable timeframe," Masadykov said, according to RIA Novosti.
Earlier, Russia's Permanent Representative to the CSTO, Viktor Vasilyev, stated that the potential deprivation of Armenia's voting rights in the organization's bodies would require the consensus of all member states. According to him, this issue will likely be discussed by the countries' leaders at the next session of the CSTO Collective Security Council, scheduled to take place in Moscow on November 11.
In June, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stated that, due to Armenia's failure to pay its membership dues, the CSTO would consider applying charter provisions that regulate actions regarding states that fail to fulfill their obligations.
Recall, Armenia has been boycotting CSTO events since late 2022. In February 2024, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan stated that Armenia had effectively frozen its participation in the CSTO, as the organization had failed to fulfill its obligations to Armenia, which would inevitably have consequences. And on September 18, 2024, at the Second Global Armenian Summit, Pashinyan declared that the CSTO posed threats to Armenia's security, its continued existence, sovereignty, and statehood.
