Aram Vardevanyan: Public demands solutions, not apology scandals in  Parliament

ArmInfo.The Armenian public expects the National Assembly to focus on solving pressing national problems rather than generating scandals and trading demands for public apologies, as stated by Aram Vardevanyan, Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly and member of the opposition "Strong  Armenia" faction, during a press- briefing on August 14, 2026.

According to Vardevanyan, parliament risks turning into an  institution with an ambiguous agenda completely detached from the  daily realities and concerns of citizens, while the legislative  leadership resorts to retaliatory threats.

"Sometimes we can agree on a dress code, which is common sense. The  only question is, how important and necessary is it now? Especially  since the chairs of the sessions have completely abandoned their  promise to be impartial arbiters and act exclusively in the interests  of the ruling party," said Aram Vardevanyan.

He noted that instead of disciplining participants within the law,  the chairs themselves use aggressive rhetoric and threaten to throw  members out of the chamber, raising the level of reprisals against  the highest legislative body. "When the National Assembly leadership  broadcasts such signals to the public, and demands an apology from  the opposition without any legal basis, this speaks of absolute legal  nihilism," the parliamentarian noted. Concluding his remarks,  Vardevanyan affirmed that the "Strong Armenia" faction, represented  by its leader Narek Karapetyan, has already outlined its position and  will not succumb to politically imposed rules of the game.
