Armenian Parliament discusses candidacy for Chair of Economic Affairs  Committee

ArmInfo.  The plenary session of the RA National Assembly on August 14 is discussing the  candidacy for the Chai of the NA Committee on Economic Affairs.

The ruling "Civil Contract" faction put forward MP Babken Tunyan for  the post. Tunyan previously served as the deputy chair of the same  committee during the eighth-convocation parliament. MP Lilit Minasyan  presented the candidate's professional background to the assembly.

In his address, Tunyan thanked the ruling majority for their trust  and pledged to direct his expertise toward serving the state. He  reflected on his past professional interactions with former prime  ministers, noting an instance involving former Prime Minister Karen  Karapetyan.

Tunyan also addressed the opposition during the session, touching  upon restrictions affecting Armenian exports to the Russian market.  Reading from a statement issued by the Russian Ministry of  Agriculture regarding conditions for resuming shipments, he  questioned whether the trade limitations stem from genuine quality  control issues or are linked to Armenia's legislative steps toward  European integration. He invited Narek Karapetyan, head of the  opposition "Strong Armenia" faction, to comment on the matter.

In response, Narek Karapetyan argued that economic requirements from  the Russian side carry political undertones. He also drew attention  to domestic economic indicators, urging the candidate to compare  poverty rates between Armenia and Georgia under the governance of the  current political majority.
