According to the source, inspectors from the Turkish Ministry of Education have begun inspections of Armenian schools in Istanbul, which will soon include Greek and Jewish schools. The inspectors informed school administrations that the admission of students who are Armenian citizens is no longer permitted and recommended that they be transferred to Turkish state schools.

According to a government decree adopted in 2012, foreign children were allowed to attend minority schools as "guest students," although they were not eligible to receive a diploma. The sudden end to this practice, which had been in place for approximately 14 years, has raised serious concerns among the Armenian community and human rights activists.

For example, the Association for Human Rights and Solidarity with Displaced Persons (MAZLUMDER) is currently working to address violations of the right to education for students who are Armenian citizens. MAZLUMDER told Agos that it is attempting to meet with

civil society organizations, educational institutions, relevant authorities, and families affected by this decision.
