ArmInfo. "Contrary to the Armenian side's claims, we have not reached any preliminary agreements with Armenia regarding the TRIPP project," stated Iranian Major General Rahim Safavi, when commenting on the situation surrounding the TRIPP project and negotiations with Armenia, as reported by the Telegram channel "Lord of War."
According to him, there is no real mutual understanding or common stance on this issue. "We have openly and clearly communicated our 'red lines' to Armenia. Therefore, the statement by the Armenian parliament member is not true," the general stated.
"On the other hand, if we oppose the US presence in the Persian Gulf, then why should we support their presence in the South Caucasus? We view the region and the security of our borders as a single whole." Therefore, this project in its current format poses a threat to Iran," he said.
"We are continuing negotiations with Armenia. However, if security responsibility there is handed over to the American military, Iran reserves the right to respond and take appropriate measures. It would be better if Armenian border guards independently control the Iranian-Armenian border and the routes passing through it," the Iranian general stated.
