ArmInfo. The TRIPP project through Syunik limits Armenia's sovereignty, as stated by Ishkhan Saghatelyan, a member of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia from the opposition Armenia faction and a representative of the ARF Dashnaktsutyun party.
Speaking to journalists on August 12, 2026, Saghatelyan emphasized that the proposed route is not a standard local highway, such as the Yerevan-Sevan motorway. Instead, management of the route is slated to fall under an Armenian-American company with a majority American stake. He noted that the primary concern among the public is what tangible benefits Armenia stands to gain from the arrangement. Many call this road Trump's road, others just a road, and some a corridor, but the core issue is not wordplay it is the substantive side of the question and its effectiveness. And in this case, the existence of a problem is obvious," Saghatelyan stated. He questioned whether Armenian border guards will have jurisdiction over travelers or if passage will remain unchecked, noting that the current authorities have failed to provide clear answers.
Saghatelyan added that the draft agreement concerning the TRIPP project is currently undergoing review at the Constitutional Court before proceeding to parliament for debate. "Until then, I continue to consider this project dangerous for the Republic of Armenia," he said.
He pointed out that all assessments of the nature and character of the current government remain valid for the Armenia bloc. Specifically, the bloc believes that the current government poses a threat to Armenian statehood. "Therefore, in this new parliament, under the current government, the challenges facing our country not only haven't disappeared, but are intensifying every day. Therefore, the issue of a change of power remains on the agenda. And to achieve this goal, it's necessary to negotiate with all opposition forces and achieve consolidation. Negotiations are underway, we have a roadmap, but we need to reach an agreement on its publication. We face complex issues. These authorities are already preparing the people for new concessions," Saghatelyan concluded.
