ArmInfo. Armenia is currently drafting new legislation aimed at safeguarding public mental health, preventing psychological disorders, and revising treatment mechanisms to ensure a high quality of life for patients, as stated by Deputy Health Minister Armen Gasparyan during a meeting of the Public Council under the Minister of Health.
Outlining the ministry's key initiatives in mental health care, Gasparyan underscored the importance of actively engaging civil society and public councils during the early stages of legislative drafting.
The meeting emphasized the need to improve and implement robust mechanisms to protect the rights of individuals with mental health conditions and prevent discrimination. Participants highlighted community- level support as a critical factor in this process.
In this context, attendees discussed the integration of community-based services as part of a broader state strategy and legislative overhaul. This initiative marks a strategic shift away from institutionalized care toward a comprehensive system of community-based support and integration.
