ArmInfo. The Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports of the Republic of Armenia has submitted a draft resolution on the e-draft.am platform to recognize the territory of the Kapan football stadium in the Syunik Province as a priority public interest site. The initiative aims to redevelop the area into a modern sports complex meeting international standards.
On August 10, the ministry hosted public hearings regarding the project, led by Narine Shahbazyan, Head of the Sports Policy Department, with participation from Kapan community representatives, stadium owners, and local stakeholders.
Key discussions centered on:
Infrastructure and Sports Traditions: Emphasizing Kapan's legacy as a training center for athletics and football, stakeholders proposed integrating modern running tracks, jumping zones, and facilities compliant with UEFA standards to host international matches.
Management Models: Participants explored a public-private or state-community partnership model to ensure broad public access and active involvement from local sports organizations.
Regional Impact: The project is expected to boost youth athletics, professional sports, tourism, and the socio-economic development of the Syunik region.
The proposals and comments made during the public hearings will be studied and addressed in accordance with the established procedure as part of the further development of the project.
