ArmInfo. Aram Vardevanyan, a member of parliament from the opposition "Strong Armenia" bloc, was elected Vice Speaker of the National Assembly of Armenia by secret ballot on August 10. In addition to the opposition, Vardevanyan's candidacy was supported by several other members of parliament from the ruling Civil Contract party. This was done intentionally to ensure the necessary number of votes for Vardevanyan's election. Fifty-three members of parliament supported Vardevanyan's candidacy. The same 53 members of parliament participated in the vote.
As a reminder, Hayk Konjoryan and Vahagn Aleksanyan, both from the Civil Contract bloc, were elected Vice Speakers last week. Ruben Rubinyan, a member of the ruling party, had previously become Speaker of the Parliament.
