Who and why is sacrificing RA National Security Service`s reputation?  - expert 

ArmInfo.  Who is sacrificing the authority of the National Security Service of Armenia and why? This question is posed by political scientist Hakob Badalyan, commenting on footage of the arrest of Argam Abrahamyan, son of  former RA Prime Minister Hovik Abrahamyan.

Argam Abrahamyan was detained and arrested on August 8, 2026. The  court sentenced him to two months' pretrial detention. The RA  Investigative Committee accuses him of ordering and inciting the  murder of spiritual pastor S.V. According to the case file, Abramyan,  suspecting his wife of having an affair with and transferring large  sums of money to 54-year-old Soghomon V., the spiritual pastor of the  Christians of the Evangelical Faith religious organization, decided  to take revenge by sending his security guard to kill him.  However,  it wasn't the arrest itself that sparked public concern, but the  manner in which it was carried out.  Footage released by the National  Security Service (NSS) shows a special unit of the service breaking  into the Abramyans' home, forcing the suspect to the floor, and  twisting his arms.

In this regard, the political scientist drew attention to the  spectacle, the circumstances and motives of which are being actively  discussed and interpreted. "People see that, for someone's whim, a  special unit of the National Security Service is being used in a  situation where there are clearly no complications, no need for  professional skills, no need for such an action at all. A special  unit is used in a situation where there is no resistance, no escape,  no danger. Meanwhile, this structure, and especially a special unit,  plays a special role, precisely for special cases that build public  authority and respect for the profession, professional mission, and  state mission of the NSS. But when institutional and functional use  is not needed, is clearly not required in a given situation and is  "not justified," then, at least subconsciously, a frivolous public  perception is formed, especially in relation to a structure whose  public reputation and authority are fundamental to any state. And  therefore, for me, the question arises here: who and why is  sacrificing the authority of the NSS of Armenia, the special units of  the NSS, placing this structure in such disproportionate situations,  and therefore, from the point of view of public perception, which  carry the risk described above?" - noted Hakob Badalyan.
