ArmInfo. The old building of Zvartnots Airport will not be removed from the list of historical and cultural monuments of Yerevan. Deputy Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure of Armenia Armen Simonyan announced this to Public TV.
He stated that in January of this year, the fifth amendment to the concession agreement was signed with the management company "Armenia International Airports," according to which the latter committed to invest $425 million in the airport. Subsequently, the company submitted a master plan to the government for the transformation of the old airport building, which has already been 95% approved.
The new terminal is intended to be integrated with the old building, but, as Martirosyan noted, the latter will be converted. "The monument must be modified, and its conceptual design has already been approved. But when the final sketches and designs are ready, we will incorporate them into the master plan and submit them for public discussion," the deputy minister said, announcing that the famous tower of the old airport building will remain, while the surrounding structures will be transformed. Its status as a historical and cultural monument will also be preserved.
