ArmInfo. Azerbaijan dictates numerous preconditions to Armenia, which citizen Nikol P. obediently fulfills. A similar statement was made on the Mother Armenia party's Facebook page by the party's leader, Andranik Tevanyan, number two on the Prosperous Armenia party's electoral list.
In his statement from the Yerevan-Centron penitentiary, Tevanyan noted that one of these conditions was voiced by the head of the Caucasus Muslims Department, Allashukur Pashazade, and concerns the Armenian Apostolic Church.
"Today, a shameful trial will take place in Etchmiadzin against the Catholicos of All Armenians and our other respected clergy. In reality, this 'trial' is not only against our spiritual leaders, but also against our country, our Church, and our identity. I call on the citizens of the Republic of Armenia to participate in this 'trial,' thereby upholding our values and rejecting Pashazade's henchmen," noted Andranik Tevanyan.
As a reminder, since May 2025, the Armenian authorities have launched an active anti-church policy and are seeking the resignation of Catholicos of All Armenians Garegin II, who is elected to this position for life. This campaign has targeted both clergy and citizens who support the Church. In February of this year, the Armenian Prosecutor's Office opened a criminal case against Catholicos of All Armenians Garegin II, and he is banned from leaving the country. The case was opened on charges of obstructing the execution of a judicial decision related to the defrocking of Arman Saroyan. Khachatur Galstyan has been appointed prosecutor in the criminal case. Several other high-ranking clergy are also involved in the case. The first hearing in the criminal case against the Catholicos of All Armenians is scheduled for August 7 at 4:00 PM and will take place in the Armavir Regional Court of General Jurisdiction, presided over by Judge Hakob Manukyan.
