Parents of conscripts demand  shorter military terms for all  servicemen

ArmInfo. Parents of active-duty conscripts staged a protest today outside the government building, demanding equal conditions for all servicemen regarding the reduction of the mandatory military service term to one and a half  years.

Recall, prior to the elections, the Armenian authorities passed a law  stating that the term of military service for citizens drafted  starting January 1, 2026, is reduced from two years to one and a half  years. Parents believe these changes should apply to all servicemen  without any exceptions or distinctions.

"My son is serving for two years, and we demand that our children  also serve for a year and a half.  We have no complaints: my son does  not complain, the food, the clothing—they are provided with  everything. But we demand fairness. It turns out that some classmates  serve for two years, while others serve for a year and a half. There  is no difference between them; these are all our children, and the  conditions must be equal for everyone," noted one of the mothers  participating in the protest.

According to the parents, such disparities create tension within the  army, as some soldiers undergo a longer service term than others. "We  ask for a positive decision. This is not our first protest. We are  constantly told that the issue will be reviewed, but over the past  six months, no changes have taken place," the participants stated.
