Second criminal case initiated against Kamo Areyan, Advisor of  Yerevan Mayor 

ArmInfo. A second criminal case has been launched against adviser to the mayor of Yerevan, Kamo Areyan.

According to a report posted in the Datalex legal documents system,  Areyan has been charged with official forgery. "Kamo Areyan is  accused of committing official forgery between 2003 and 2009, while  serving as the first deputy mayor of Yerevan and simultaneously  heading the commission for organizing and conducting public auctions  for the alienation of land plots. Furthermore, he  aided and abetted  Yerevan Mayor Yervand Zakharyan in exceeding his official powers and  carrying out actions beyond the authority granted him by law,"  Datalex notes.

According to the source, as a result of these actions, the Special  School for Orphans and Children Without Parental Care was deprived   of land previously provided to it for gratuitous use. According to  the prosecution, as a result of these actions, the state lost  ownership of a land with a market value of 105 million drams.

It is noted that charges have also been brought against Naira  Ter-Stepanyan, a former employee of the municipality. The criminal  case has been transferred to Tigran Davtyan, Judge of the  Anti-Corruption Court. A travel ban has been chosen as a preventive  measure at this time.

Recall, the first case against Areyan was initiated on July 21 under  the article on abuse of official powers, which negligently caused  grave consequences. Within the framework of the same case, public  criminal prosecution was also initiated against former Yerevan Mayor  Yervand Zakharyan.

Note, Kamo Areyan is one of the longest-serving senior officials in  the Yerevan municipality since the mid-1990s. For many years, he  served as the Deputy Mayor of Yerevan and directly managed the city's  entire municipal economy. He was considered an "unsinkable" figure  who easily found common ground with all of Armenia's administrations.  He is also regarded as a highly professional specialist who  simultaneously worked successfully for both the country's capital and  for himself.
