Lawyers for "Mother Armenia" party leader appeal first-instance court  decision

ArmInfo. Lawyers for Andranik Tevanyan, leader of the Mother Armenia party, have filed an appeal with the Criminal Court of Appeals against the first-instance court's decision extending Tevanyan's detention term for another two  months, as noted in a statement issued by the party.

According to the source, the lawyers have also filed an appeal with  the Court of Cassation, challenging the first-instance court's  decision to arrest Tevanyan.

Tevanyan was detained in May of this year on charges of espionage and  high treason. On May 21, the Investigative Committee of Armenia  reported that citizen A. T. (Andranik Tevanyan), while serving as a  member of parliament, was allegedly recruited by a foreign  intelligence service in 2024 and engaged in agent activities.  According to the investigation's version, he illegally obtained  detailed information from a closed parliamentary discussion held in  April 2024, translated the materials into Russian, and transferred  data containing state secrets. As the Investigative Committee of  Armenia claims, he received $622,000 for this. A criminal case has  been initiated over this matter. Tevanyan himself denies the charges  brought against him, calling them absurd and politically motivated.
