RA Ministry of Internal Affairs warns citizens about rise in  apartment rental fraud

ArmInfo.  The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Armenia has warned citizens about apartment  rental fraud.

"Recently, apartment rental fraud has become more common on social  media. Criminals post fake ads with attractive photos and prices  significantly lower than market prices.

After attracting interest, they demand an immediate deposit to  "reserve" the apartment, claiming there is high demand for the  apartment. After receiving the deposit, they stop communicating,  block you, or delete their page," the Ministry of Internal Affairs  said in a statement.

It also urges never to transfer a deposit until you personally  inspect the apartment and verify that you are communicating with the  real owner or an authorized representative of the real estate agency.  If the offer seems too good, it's highly likely a scam.

"Make any payments only after signing a written contract. Check the  account that posted the ad: recently created, inactive, or suspicious  accounts may be used for fraudulent purposes. If possible, ensure  that the apartment's photos haven't been used in other ads or on  other websites. If you suspect you've been the victim of fraud,  contact your bank as soon as possible, save all message history,  transfer receipts, and other relevant information, and immediately  report the incident to the police. Be vigilant and thoroughly verify  the authenticity of the offer before making any payment," the  statement emphasizes.
