Iranologist: Baku`s propaganda of might masks the country`s inability  to provide water to its own population

ArmInfo. Baku's attempts to portray itself as a developed and powerful state mask the country's inability to provide its own settlements with basic living  conditions. This opinion was expressed by Iranologist Vardan  Voskanyan on his Telegram channel. In particular, he pointed to the  problem faced by residents of the Absheron Peninsula in Azerbaijan.

"Amidst the inflated propaganda campaigns and colossal,  corruption-fueled expenditures in occupied Artsakh, the barbaric Baku  regime is unable to provide even basic living conditions in the  Absheron settlements, located just a few kilometers from the  capital," the expert noted. According to him, on the Absheron  Peninsula, predominantly inhabited by Shiite Caucasian Persians  (Tats), there is no drinking water even in this rain-rich year. This  is despite the fact, as Voskanyan noted, that this peninsula provides  a significant portion of the oil and gas revenues that Azerbaijani  President Ilham Aliyev manages at his own discretion.

"This is the real situation facing an adversary that is trying to  present itself as a developed and powerful state. In reality, this is  nothing more than a noticeably inflated propaganda bubble, capable of  bursting at the first serious test," Voskanyan concluded.

It is worth noting that, according to 2023 data, Azerbaijan ranked  20th on the list of countries likely to face severe water resource  shortages by 2040.
