Armenian wrestlers maintain top positions at World Championships in  Baku

ArmInfo.   Armenian wrestlers have delivered a successful performance at the U17 World  Wrestling Championship currently taking place in Baku. According to  the press service of the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and  Sports, our athletes have managed to maintain high positions.

In particular, Greco-Roman style wrestler Ararat Avetisyan won a  bronze medal at the U17 World Wrestling Championship in Baku. In the  bronze medal match in the up to 48 kg weight category, Avetisyan  confidently defeated Hungary's Benedek Tombor with a score of 8:0. In  the 1/8 finals, the Armenian wrestler defeated an opponent from  Mexico 14:7, won against a representative of Uzbekistan 9:3 in the  quarter-finals, but lost to a wrestler from Kazakhstan in the  semi-finals.

Another Armenian representative, Vazgen Mnatsakanyan, competing in  the up to 65 kg weight category, also fought for the bronze medal but  lost to his Hungarian opponent with a score of 2:3. Meanwhile,  reigning U17 World and European Champion Janes Nazaryan advanced to  the final of the global championship in Baku.

In an interview with Azerbaijani media, the head coach of the  Armenian U17 national team, Gagik Khachatryan, noted that the  refereeing was organized at a high level. "In my opinion, this is the  most important point," he said. At the same time, the coach  highlighted the friendly attitude of the fans toward the Armenian  athletes. "We were treated very kindly, no one showed a negative  attitude. The fans supported fair play and clean sport," he  emphasized.
