ArmInfo. The Prosperous Armenia Party (PAP), led by businessman Gagik Tsarukyan, delivered a letter to the Iranian Embassy in the country, addressed to the head of the diplomatic mission, Khalil Shirgolami, requesting a response to the legal chaos surrounding the politician.
PAP spokesperson Iveta Tonoyan noted that the visit to the Iranian Embassy in Yerevan is both practical and symbolic. She reported that on July 24, the political council and the Prosperous Armenia Party sent letters to all foreign embassies accredited in Armenia and to international organizations in the country. "In these letters, we drew the attention of all heads of diplomatic missions to the unbridled political reprisal against Prosperous Armenia Party leader Gagik Tsarukyan. We also drew the heads of diplomatic missions' attention to the flagrant violation of human rights and democratic values," Tonoyan said.
According to her, embassies of foreign countries and international organizations must keep the situation top of mind and provide their assessments of the situation.
She went on to report that today they had come to the Iranian Embassy in Yerevan to personally deliver a letter to the Iranian Ambassador containing all the legal information regarding the Tsarukyan case. "It is unacceptable to us that, because of two Iranian citizens, two fraudsters, centuries-old friendly Armenian- Iranian relations are effectively at risk. As you know, Gagik Tsarukyan has always advocated for strengthening relations between Armenia and Iran in every possible area. However, because of two fraudsters, these relations are now under threat," Tonoyan noted. She added that they hope that the Iranian Embassy in Armenia, led by the Ambassador, will be consistent in ending this fabricated criminal case and acquitting Tsarukyan.
Following the speech, the PAP representatives were received at the Iranian Embassy. Several dozen citizens came to the diplomatic mission, holding posters with Tsarukyan's image and the slogan "Freedom!" After visiting the embassy, PAP member Arman Abovyan reported that the Iranian Embassy assured them that the entire process surrounding Tsarukyan has been their primary focus from the outset, and they will be consistent in achieving justice.
