Areni-1 Cave included in UNESCO World Heritage Tentative List

ArmInfo. Areni-1 Cave has been inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage Tentative List. This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture, and Sport, citing the results of the 48th session of the UNESCO World Heritage Committee, which is being held in Busan, South Korea, from July 19 to 29.

This was the first time that the Republic of Armenia participated in  the session as a member state of the Committee.

According to the source, the application for inscription was prepared  based on a previously signed memorandum of cooperation between the  Ministry of Education, Science, Culture, and Sport of the Republic of  Armenia, the Areni-1 Cave Research Foundation, and the Armenian Wine  Tourism Council, with the financial support of the latter. This is  another successful example of public-private partnership.

Thus, following consistent work over the past three years, four more  sites in Armenia have been added to the four inscribed on the UNESCO  World Heritage Tentative List in 1995.
