ArmInfo. Erem Sargsyan, lawyer for opposition Prosperous Armenia Party leader Gagik Tsarukyan, has sharply criticized the investigation's decision to summon him for interrogation as a witness.
"Today at 3:00 PM, I was summoned to the Investigative Committee for questioning as a witness in the Gagik Tsarukyan case," Erem Sargsyan told reporters outside the building of the General Department for Investigation of Economic Crimes and Smuggling of the Investigative Committee of Armenia.
He clarified that the investigatory body justified his summoning for questioning by stating that one of the defendants in the case, an Iranian citizen, testified that Sargsyan had been present at several of their meetings with Tsarukyan. "I was removed from the case and not allowed to defend Tsarukyan. This is the height of lawlessness," Sargsyan said.
Recall, on July 6, the PAP leader was detained and taken to the Investigative Committee of Armenia. He is accused of organizing fraud and money laundering on an especially large scale.
