CEC allocates mandates for 9th convocation of NA: Opening session set  for August 2

ArmInfo. On July 21, the Central Election Commission (CEC) of Armenia hosted a mandate-presentation ceremony for deputies of the country's  9th-convocation parliament, which was formed following the regular  parliamentary elections held on June 7.

According to CEC Chairman Vahagn Hovakimian, five of the seven  commission members attended the session, while two were absent with  valid excuses. The agenda focused on two main items: recognizing the  registration of candidate deputies who withdrew or declined their  mandates following the June 7, 2026 snap [regular] parliamentary  elections as void, and officially registering the newly appointed  deputies to present them with their mandates.

From the ruling Civil Contract party, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan,  Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan, Health Minister Anahit Avanesian,  Defense Minister Suren Papikyan, Economy Minister Gevorg Papoyan,  Justice Minister Srbuhi Galyan, Minister of Labor and Social Affairs  Arsen Torosyan, 8th-convocation Parliament Speaker Alen Simonyan, and  several other members of the ruling political force holding cabinet  positions withdrew or declined their mandates. 

From the Strong Armenia alliance, withdrawal statements were  submitted by Gohar Meloyan, Avetis Arakelyan, Lilia Shushanyan, Artur  Danielyan, Aleksandr Sarkisian, Taron Toflikyan, Arshavir  Khachatryan, David Ayvazyan, Robert Dilbaryan, Hovhannes Yeganyan,  and Suren Babayan.

From the Armenia alliance, the leader of the political force and  second President of Armenia, Robert Kocharyan, turned down his  parliamentary seat. Hovakimian noted that this decision enters into  force the moment it is announced at the CEC session.

During the discussion on withdrawals, a brief verbal exchange took  place between the CEC chairman and Strong Armenia candidate Suren  Babayan. Responding to Hovakimian's request to confirm his previously  submitted application, Babayan affirmed his withdrawal statements but  attempted to raise an unrelated matter outside the current agenda,  prompting a brief dispute. Once the withdrawals were settled, the CEC  chairman read out the final list of candidates who received  parliamentary mandates in accordance with the party lists submitted  by the political forces.

Concluding the session, Hovakimian announced that the inaugural  session of the National Assembly of Armenia's 9th convocation will  take place on August 2 at 10:00 AM.

In should be noted that the mandates have been distributed as  follows: the Civil Contract party secured 64 mandates, the Strong  Armenia alliance received 29, and the Armenia alliance obtained 12.
