


ArmInfo. The buildings of the Goris Penitentiary Institution (PEI) do not comply with current international standards in this area, and this issue must be properly addressed. This was stated by Ombudsman of Armenia Anahit Manasyan following a working visit to the Goris Penitentiary Institution of the RA Ministry of Justice.
According to the press service of the Ombudsman's Office, the human rights defender inspected the facility's grounds and familiarized herself with the conditions of detention for inmates. The Ombudsman also visited the cells, spoke with inmates, and listened to their questions and concerns. Manayan promised that all information received would be thoroughly analyzed, after which the necessary proposals would be submitted to the relevant government agencies.
The human rights defender emphasized that the state is responsible for ensuring the rights of persons deprived of liberty, as well as other individuals under its jurisdiction.
Manayan also emphasized the importance of ensuring adequate working conditions for penitentiary service employees. "These issues will also be the subject of separate discussions with the competent government agencies," she promised.
