


ArmInfo. An Armenian court has acquitted Hayk Shamiryan, the mayor of Askeran in Artsakh. Lawyer Vahe Yeprikyan announced this on his Facebook page.
"Acquittal: The court, presided over by Judge A. Hovhannisyan, acquitted my client, Askeran Mayor Hayk Shamiryan, accused under Part 2 of Article 43-236 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Armenia. And this political persecution ended with a victory for the defense and the honor of the Court; it ended with justice and impartiality. Thank you, esteemed Court," he wrote.
As a reminder, the arrest of Askeran Mayor Hayk Shamiryan became known on May 24, 2024. On May 25 of that year, he was placed under house arrest by court order. He is accused of causing property damage to the Republic of Artsakh. The damage involved community property worth 5.2 million drams and a car, which community members decided to transfer to Hayk Shamiryan in light of his activities in Askeran.
