Ombudsperson: Numerous human rights challenges persist in  Armenia

ArmInfo.Human Rights Defender of Armenia Anahit Manasyan has met with Member of the European Parliament Marina Mesure.

During the meeting, the parties discussed issues related to the  protection of the rights of internally displaced persons, women,  children, representatives of national minorities, persons with  disabilities, LGBTQ+ people, labor rights, the protection of rights  in criminal proceedings, and other matters. Anahit Manasyan  emphasized that, despite recorded progress in a number of areas,  numerous challenges persist in the field of human rights protection  that require consistent and ongoing efforts.

The Ombudsperson also touched on the serious scale of hate speech in  Armenia and  underscored the importance of countering this  phenomenon. Manasyan highlighted the need to implement systemic  reforms in human rights education.

According to a statement from the Ombudsman's Office on Facebook, the  participants emphasized the role of international cooperation in  protecting human rights and strengthening democratic values. At the  conclusion of the meeting, they reaffirmed their readiness to  cooperate on areas of mutual interest.
