ArmInfo. Human Rights Defender Anahit Manasyan participated in the 120th plenary session of the Council of Europe Committee for the Prevention of Torture and Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment in Strasbourg, held from July 6 to 10. Manasyan participated in the session as a member of the Committee.
According to a statement from the Ombudsman's Office, during the session, the Committee discussed and adopted reports on visits to several countries. The Committee also adopted new standards regarding women deprived of their liberty and immigration detention. Through these standards, the framework further clarifies the requirements that must be applied to these two groups of persons deprived of their liberty, providing national authorities with additional guidance on the standards for protecting their rights.
Recall, Anahit Manasyan was elected as a member of the Committee for the Prevention of Torture and Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment representing Armenia on November 29, 2023.
