ArmInfo. The current legal system in Armenia pursues political persecution of regime opponents, not justice. This is stated in a statement by the Mother Armenia party.
The statement recalls that on July 9, party board member Aregnaz Manukyan was arrested for two months by court order. "Aregnaz Manukyan did not avoid interrogation; she has a minor child in her custody, but today's legal system in Armenia pursues political persecution of regime opponents, not justice. Trials, apartment searches, and arrests have become direct methods of punishment.
Mother Armenia calls on the public and political forces to be vigilant and prevent the final establishment of a dictatorial regime in Armenia. We rely on the conscience of our citizens: today they came for Aregnaz Manukyan, and tomorrow they will come for each of us. Only through the united resistance of society and political forces can a catastrophe be averted. It is not too late. Tomorrow may be too late," the statement reads. As a reminder, according to the Investigative Committee, a public criminal prosecution has been initiated against Aregnaz Manukyan under Part 1 of Article 427 of the Criminal Code (disclosure of information containing a state secret). The investigation was conducted as part of a criminal case of espionage and treason, in which Andranik Tevanyan, leader of the Mother Armenia party, was previously arrested. Manukyan is suspected of passing classified information regarding the Armenian Armed Forces to Tevanyan, which was presented at a closed parliamentary meeting.
