ArmInfo. Mesrop Arakelyan, co-founder of the "Country for Life" party, sharply criticized the actions of Armenian law enforcement agencies against businessman Gagik Tsarukyan, leader of the "Prosperous Armenia" party.
"I watched footage of Gagik Tsarukyan's arrest, accused of some incomprehensible economic crime. The actions of several hundred NSS officers were like neutralizing an international terrorist in the midst of committing an act of violence.
I remembered how the brutal murderer Valodi Grigoryan (head of the Merdzavan community - ed.) was detained. Accused of killing two people and wounding one, he calmly strolled 'through Nikol's Armenia', accompanied by police officers, enjoying the exceptional respect of law enforcement," the politician recalled in his Facebook post.
He also expressed his conviction that if this system had served its purpose, rather than satisfying Nikol Pashinyan's personal, petty vendetta, not only Valodi's murder but many other serious crimes would have long ago been fully solved and received a proper legal assessment.
"But our country's judicial system has long since turned into a show-stopping bureau run by the country's top showman. I look forward to and will see the day when the real culprits who brought our country to this state, surrendered Artsakh, and caused thousands of casualties are brought to justice," Arakelyan concluded.
On the evening of July 7, the Investigative Committee of Armenia released footage of Gagik Tsarukyan's arrest, which shows NSS officers violently detaining the politician and forcing him to the floor when he offers no resistance. This footage, released by the Investigative Committee of Armenia, provoked a negative reaction in Armenian society. Most citizens expressed outrage at the methods used to detain the 70-year-old politician, who is accused of economic crimes. Experts called these actions against the politician and businessman a political reprisal that has nothing to do with justice.
