
ArmInfo. A criminal case has been opened against the head of a department at Brusov State University for bribery. This was reported in a statement by the Anti-Corruption Committee.
The statement notes that as a result of investigative measures carried out by the National Security Service of the Republic of Armenia, as part of a criminal case opened by the Anti-Corruption Committee, it was established that an official of Brusov State University, using his official powers, accepted a bribe for patronage.
Specifically, the preliminary investigation revealed that the official in question orchestrated the granting of unscheduled leave to two faculty members in the same department during the academic year, dividing the teaching hours between other faculty members. In exchange, he received various amounts of money from them as bribes in October 2025. Furthermore, the department head accepted a bribe from a graduate student to secure his dissertation defense, receiving a gold jewelry item from him in December 2025.
The department head has been charged under Article 435, Part 2, Clause 3 (3 counts) of the Criminal Code, and the three faculty members who bribed him have been charged under Article 436, Part 2, Clause 3 of the Criminal Code. As a preventive measure, the department head has been banned from attending lectures and suspended from his position.
The preliminary investigation of the criminal case has been completed, and the case materials, along with the indictment, have been sent to the supervising prosecutor with a motion for its approval and referral to the court.
