
ArmInfo. The Republic of Armenia has contributed to the effective implementation of international criminal justice and the fight against organized cybercrime. This was stated in a statement by the Prosecutor General's Office of the Republic of Armenia.
The source recalls that on May 10, 2024, by decision of Prosecutor General of the Republic of Armenia Anna Vardapetyan, the petition of the competent authority of the Federal Republic of Germany was granted, and M.B., accused of committing large-scale fraud as part of a criminal organization, was extradited to the competent authorities of the Federal Republic of Germany to face criminal prosecution for fraud committed in Germany through a "call center." The Organized Crime and Corruption Reporting Project (OCCRP), a respected international investigative journalism organization dedicated to exposing organized crime and corruption, cited the German verdict in this case and presented the circumstances of the investigation and subsequent developments. One of the key organizers of the call center fraud, M.B., was sentenced by a German court to seven years and six months in prison. The court also ordered the confiscation of ?2.4 million in criminal proceeds. The convicted man pleaded guilty. According to the court ruling, the damages caused to the victims in Germany amounted to approximately ?8 million. Furthermore, another ?42 million in damages were caused by providing specialized software to other criminal groups for the purpose of committing fraud.
"Thus, the Prosecutor's Office of the Republic of Armenia, by satisfying the request of the competent German authority, contributed to the effective implementation of international criminal justice and the fight against organized cybercrime," the statement reads.
