ArmInfo. Vice Speaker of the Armenian Parliament Ruben Rubinyan announced that after being elected Speaker of the Armenian Parliament, he will resign as Special Representative for the Normalization of Relations with Turkey. He made this statement on July 3 in a conversation with journalists in the Armenian Parliament, asking whether his candidacy for Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic was a message to the Turkish side.
According to Rubinyan, his candidacy for the position of Speaker of the Armenian Parliament means that he will not continue negotiations with Turkey. "Since I was elected as a candidate for Speaker of the Armenian Parliament, it is clear that I will not continue to represent Armenia in negotiations with Turkey. Statements that this decision was dictated by Turkey essentially contradict the choice of the Armenian people. It was the citizens of Armenia who elected Nikol Pashinyan and the Civil Contract Party as Prime Minister, and therefore they authorized our political party to elect me as candidate for Speaker of the Armenian Parliament. Therefore, such statements are a manifestation of disrespect for our citizens," Rubinyan noted.
The Deputy Speaker of the Armenian Parliament also responded to the claim that congratulating Serdar K?l?c Rubinyan, Turkey's Special Representative for the Normalization of Turkish-Armenian Relations, on his election as Speaker of the Armenian Parliament constitutes Turkey's interference in the process. According to Rubinyan, there is nothing wrong with this. "I also received congratulations from Russia, from one of my colleagues. Or, for example, on the night of the parliamentary elections in Armenia, the Georgian Prime Minister congratulated Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan on his victory. Does this mean that Pashinyan won the election on the orders of the Georgian Prime Minister? You know, such claims are possible, but they must be based on something," the Deputy Speaker of the Armenian Parliament concluded.
As a reminder, following a secret ballot within the board of the ruling Civil Contract party in Armenia, current Deputy Speaker Ruben Rubinyan was elected as the candidate for Speaker of the National Assembly of Armenia. On June 26, Turkey's Special Representative for the Normalization of Turkish- Armenian Relations, Serdar K?l?c, congratulated Rubinyan on his nomination for Speaker of the Armenian Parliament on his Facebook page.
