


ArmInfo. Officers from the General Department of Criminal Police of the Armenian Ministry of Internal Affairs have suppressed the activities of a criminal group suspected of carrying out computer theft on an especially large scale, as reported by the MIA press service.
According to the ministry, the Cybercrime Department received operational information that a group of individuals had established a criminal organization in the Bagrevand district of Yerevan to carry out large- scale cyberthefts. During the investigative operations, the identities of the suspected participants, their number, and their schedule were established. It was also discovered that access to the area was restricted by by security personnel hired specifically to guard the facility. A criminal investigation was reportedly initiated, and on June 15, officers from the Investigative Committee and the Criminal Police conducted a surprise raid.
"As a result of the search, digital storage devices, handwritten notes, foreign ID cards, mobile phones, and foreign phone numbers relevant to the investigation were seized," the Ministry's statement reads. Furthermore, acting on information provided by one of the detainees, law enforcement officials discovered two handguns and corresponding ammunition on the second floor of the building. The Ministry of Internal Affairs noted that the Cybercrime Department continues to cooperate with law enforcement agencies in EU member states and the United States to establish to the full scope of the alleged criminal activity, the methods used, and the identities of all involved parties.
