ArmInfo. Representatives from the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports (MESCS) of Armenia conducted a monitoring visit to the Shirak region to inspect the ongoing restoration of frescoes at the Harichavank Monastery complex.
According to the Ministry's press service, they started by observing the reinforcement and cleaning process of a 13th-century fresco located above the entrance to the Surb Astvatsatsin (Holy Mother of God) Church in the village of Arich. The Ministry noted that the scientific and design documentation for the restoration was developed and submitted to the MESCS working group on monumental art by Ara Zaryan, an Armenian philanthropist residing in Italy. The restoration work itself is being performed by Italian restoration specialist Christine Lamoureux.
In addition to the work at Harichavank, Ministry staff inspected the restoration of the "Sasuntsiner" (People of Sasun) fresco in the Armavir region. Located in the House of Culture in the village of Apaga, this fresco was created in the 1970s by artist Sargis Muradyan.
"The restoration of this fresco was initiated by the Ministry ahead of the 100th anniversary of the master's birth. The reinforcement and cleaning phases are nearing completion and are being carried out by Armenian specialists," the Ministry concluded.
