ArmInfo. On July 1, Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan attended a ceremonial meeting marking the anniversary of the formation of the State Protection Service (SPS).
According to the government's press office, the Prime Minister congratulated the service members and expressed his gratitude for their dedicated service to the Republic of Armenia. Pashinyan noted that the progress of the State Protection Service is clearly visible, ranging from the modernization of daily uniforms to improvements in weaponry and equipment.
The Prime Minister also addressed the issue of the Service's funding, emphasizing that it's budget has increased significantly. In this context, he highlighted the importance of expanding the scope of international cooperation, which enhances the accessibility and quality of communication. Pashinyan also stressed the significance of ensuring appropriate social guarantees for SPS personnel and underscored the necessity of the service's institutional development, describing it as one of the state's most critical special services.
"Previously, this understanding was not so clear, as the Service was part of the National Security Service, and the development of independent capabilities was not considered particularly necessary. I believe that now the time has come for the Service to develop independently as a special service, addressing all associated challenges and responsibilities, which also implies certain structural changes," the Prime Minister stated.
Pashinyan concluded by emphasizing the need to increase the sector's appeal to young professionals and the importance of ensuring continuous professional development within the service.
