ArmInfo. Armenian authorities are not shortening the duration of military training for reservists because they view it as a punitive instrument. This opinion was expressed on his Facebook page by National Assembly MP Tigran Abrahamyan from the opposition "I Have the Honor" faction.
According to him, the 25-day training period could be shortened by 4-5 days. However, as Abrahamyan noted, the authorities have not yet taken this step. "With proper planning and effective distribution of work, planned programs can be completed in 20 or 21 days, including combat duty. But instead, both people's time and the state's resources are wasted. For this government, a new form of army command and the prompt implementation of political instructions are priorities," the opposition figure concluded.
As a reminder, before the latest parliamentary elections in Armenia, media outlets circulated footage of men arriving at Yerevan's Zvartnots Airport being served summonses for 25-day reserve training by representatives of the country's military police. Armenian authorities attempted to spread the rumor that Russia would allegedly send up to 100,000 citizens to Armenia to participate in the elections. No factual evidence was presented to support these claims. Speaking to reporters on June 4, three days before the elections, Armenian Defense Minister Suren Papikyan confirmed that Armenian citizens arriving from Russia to vote may be served with summonses for military training. The minister also assured that summonses would be issued to all citizens liable for military service, regardless of their country of residence. However, opposition representatives expressed their belief that the authorities had turned the 25- day military training for reservists into a punitive tool for combating undesirables.
