ArmInfo. The Constitutional Court of Armenia is very busy due to the large number of appeals regarding the results of the parliamentary elections. This was stated to journalists on June 30 by Constitutional Court member Artak Zeynalyan, who was removed from reviewing the claims of seven political forces due to their possible bias against the ruling Civil Contract Party.
When asked whether he agreed with attorney Aram Orbelyan, the Prosperous Armenia Party representative at the Constitutional Court, that all nine Constitutional Court judges should have participated in the hearing and shared responsibility for the decision, Artak Zeynalyan responded: "I will be guided solely by the procedural decision of the Constitutional Court and will remain within its framework. Of course, if the court works with seven members, the workload will be greater."
Regarding the accusations against Constitutional Court Judge Seda Safaryan of making political statements regarding Russia's influence in the elections in Armenia, Artak Zeynalyan noted: "I follow the Constitutional Court sessions live online, and I think the President of the Constitutional Court has resolved this issue. The electoral process, in addition to being legal, is also political, or even vice versa, in addition to being political, it is also legal, and such accusations or questions can be raised in the Constitutional Court."
As a reminder, the results of the June 7 parliamentary elections are being challenged in the Constitutional Court by seven political forces: the Armenia bloc, the Strong Armenia party, the Wings of Unity party, the Democracy, Law, Discipline party, the Prosperous Armenia party, the Bloc of Democracy Defenders for the Republic, and the reformist New Force party. Eighteen political forces participated in the elections. Seven of the nine Constitutional Court judges are participating in the case. The Constitutional Court ruled that Judges Artak Zeynalyan and Vladimir Vardanyan cannot participate in the hearing due to their biased attitude toward the party, their representative, and other participants in the proceedings.
