Ancient objects were discovered during restoration and cleanup work at the "Amberd Fortress" historical and cultural reserve, as reported by the Service for the Protection of Historical Environment and Cultural Museum Reservations of the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture, and Sports of Armenia.
"The first discovery was made on the exterior of the fortress's inner tower wall, approximately one meter east of the central section: a human skeleton. Roughly 90% of the bones were preserved, with the exception of the finger bones. Based on the condition of the teeth, experts suggest the individual was a young person," the statement reads.
It is noted that in addition to the human remains, archaeologists also discovered fragments of the game "Tama" (similar to checkers) and a coin belonging to Queen Tamar of Georgia.
"The fragments of the 'Tama' game likely point to a popular pastimes in the Middle Ages, while the coin holds significant historical value for Armenian history. Cleaning and archaeological excavation work at Amberd is ongoing," the Service added.
